Updating Your Patio for Labor Day Weekend

We inherited a really nice wicker patio furniture set from Mark's family.  It's a Henry Link white wicker sofa and love seat.  The set is really nice and in great shape, but the cushions have gotten a bit gross over the years and the material is crusty feeling and has a few stains.  The furniture set is currently on our three season porch, which is a bit of a clutter magnet.  Since we don't have a garage, spillover from our sheds tends to happen in here.  We cleaned it up for Dean's birthday (or I should say Mark cleaned it up) and I attempted to buy new cushions for sofa and love seat.  This is the 2nd time I've tried buying new cushions for this set.  The bottom cushions work out fine, but the back cushions never seem to fit right.  From my pictures, you can see that my set is backless.

MY CURRENT PATIO SET

The bottom cushions are Target's Threshold deep seat cushions, which I got on sale for $24 a piece.  They are completely gone at stores to make room for Back to School purchases, but now is the time to buy outdoor cushions at stores like +Pier 1 Imports .  The throw pillows I bought from +HomeGoods and got for a great deal - I think they came as a 2 pack for $24.99.  Below are some pillow 2pks online at +T.J.Maxx , also $24.99 and a single pillow whose pattern I absolutely love for $16.99.

UPDATING MY PATIO SET

Since my mom is crafty, we've come up with a really nice solution.  She is taking my back cushions and making new pillow cases for them.  She found Sunbrella navy and white gingham fabric at Sewfisticated for $8.99 a yard.  Since I have 5 back cushions, she bought 10 yards of material, totaling $89.99.  To buy one Sunbrella cushion can cost upwards of what we spent on fabric.  Now the cushions will fit perfectly and we can repurpose the zippers from the original cases for the new ones.  If you are crafty like my mom, below is a round up of affordable fabrics and Craiglist wicker patio furniture set listings.  In case you don't have a patio set, but are thinking about buying one, Craigslist could be a way to score some excellent condition used furniture.  These Craiglist sets are affordable and look to be in great condition.
