FRIDAY FEELING - KIDS EDITION



TGIF!  Do you remember that line up in 90s with Full House, Step by Step, and Boy Meets World - so, so good.  Everytime I see or here TGIF, my mind is drawn back to that magical time of Friday nights, watching my favorite shows in my pre-teens after finishing dance class and enjoying pizza.  I think I'm getting nolstagic because my little girl just turned 4, my son is now 16 months old, and in less than two weeks I'm turning 35!  35!  I can't believe it.  #FridayFeeling

1.  FAITH IS 4



Faith turned 4 this past Tuesday.  When she came downstairs, I said "Happy Birthday" and she replied, "Does this mean I'm finally 4".  I said "Yes" and she shouted "YAAAY" and jumped up and down.  That kid cracks me up with her enthusiasm for everything.  This year we're doing gymnastics, dance, and giving sports a try with soccer (so far, I'd say that's 50/50 - a bit of a love hate).  I'm excited to see what this year brings and what Faith learns at her new school.  

2.  DEAN IS 16 MO




Dean definitely keeps me on my toes (as discussed in this post) and I'm grateful we invested in our safety measures (my picks here).  The climbing has extended to his high chair, the trash insert, and the dining room chairs.  He has also taken a shine to Faith's Micro Mini Kick Scooter and started to figure out how to ride around on it.  Recently, I found some great deals on shoes at our local Marshalls.  I found a pair of gray velcro Converse seankers and velcro strap Timberland boots for $45 for Dean and while I was there I grabbed a pair of Nike sneakers for Faith at $25.

Below is a round up of some great shoe options that you could buy for your littles.  I can't begin to tell you how great it is to have velcro strap shoes.




3. RAINBOW THEME FOR THE PARTY


Here are some purchases we made to round out decorations for the party room at Faith's birthday celebration tomorrow.

I bought 36 unfrosted cucpakes from Stop n Shop for under $20 - what a deal!  I'm going to buy white frosting, mix it with food coloring, and create something similar to below.

We bought the birthday banner and napkins from Target for handing out the cupcakes.  We didn't need to buy any of the other party supplies since they're provided by the venue.


Some Dollar Tree purchases - red, yellow, and blue pom-pom garlands to represent Rainbow Dash's cutey mark and Skittles fun size packs.


4.  RAINBOW DRESS FOR BIRTHDAY GIRL


I'm thinking for Faith's birthday celebration, she could wear something fun and fitting with the theme.  If you've thought about putting together a rainbow themed party or have a nut for rainbows like my daughter, below are some really cute options.  I need to stop by Target today and I'm hoping I can that cute striped number.  If I were closer to a Nordstrom, I wold totally go for Boden dress.




5. ANTI-AGING CREAM


Due to my impending milestone bday, I've been really thinking about trying out an anti-aging cream and see if it helps with my crows feet and forehead lines. Here are a few that are affordable and on the top ten best drugstore retinol creams.

FRIDAY FEELING HALLOWEEN EDITION - Inexpensive & Fun Costumes


We're back with #FridayFeeling Halloween Edition.  Are you starting to think about the holiday and what your kiddos will dress up as?  Below are some affordable costume ideas that could be matching mommy & me costumes.  For a majority of these costumes, you could use everyday clothing or buy wardrobe staples as the costume base that your child can wear again.  I'd like to do a follow up post on daddy & me costumes that could extend into a full family theme.  I was going to do it as one big post and majorily ran out of time (maybe because I was fixated on boots yesterday).

2. Little Red Riding Hood

My Mommy outfit totals under $75; girls' outfit totals $38.  My thought with the men's blanket scarf - it would be large enough to drape over your head to serve as the hood.  Rather than buying a red cape (I found a couple on Etsy under $50) that you might not wear again, buy a blanket scarf that you'll get plenty of wear out of and it's only $22!  The red sweater cape by Target's Genuine Kids Oshkosh line is so stinking cute.  I have it on good authority my mom got this as a birthday present for Faith and I'm pretty excited to see it on her.

The only thing that I don't see as a practical investment are the glittery ruby red shoes.  But, at $30 that's not too shabby in terms of a price tag on extraneous stuff you'll never use again.  Although you could both totally rock your ruby red glittery shoes during the holidays.

4. Princess / Queen / Lady

These dresses and headband are a bit of a stretch for us moms, BUT, if you plan on going to King Richard's fair for family fun (check out this post), then you could totally reuse it.  The dresses are a bit racier than I'd normally wear, but I think I could totally rock the black lacy number at a wedding.  Now if someone could get married, I've totally justified it.

For the little girls' dress up, the Belle princess dress is already in Faith's closet (you saw her in it here) so it would cost me $5 to complete her costume.  The second dress option she'd love since it's a rainbow dress.

5. Hogwarts wizard

So this is the only costume that doesn't involve buying some clothing staple.  But you can get the Hogwarts wizard accessories you need for under $30.  Then you can wear whatever you feel like underneath as long as it's white top and black bottoms.

TKBTB - The Kids Behind The Blog


I've recently discovered Stephanie's blog Wife Mommy Me through Tuesday Talk linkup party.  She and her fellow co-hosts do a monthly feature on the second Wednesday of each month called The Kids Behind The Blog.  In the August feature, the questions for September TKBTB were posted.  Over the past few days, I've been trying to get some answers from Faith so I sneak them during breakfast and right before bedtime.  Below are September's prompts nad Faith's answers.

Q&A


1. What is your favorite sport?  Why?

"Football.  Because I love swinging the bat."  Me - "That's baseball.  Do you like baseball?"  "I like both."

2.  If someone gave you a million dollars what would you buy?

"My favorite toy - Shopkins legos."  I thought she was making this up, but apparently Faith knows better and we need to buy this for her since her birthday is next week.  

3.  Tell me three things that kids do better than mommies and daddies.

"Coloring.  Building.  Painting."  I initially asked her about what kids do better than mommies and daddies but she didn't respond.  So I snuck this in while I was tucking her in and rephrased it as adults.

4.  What is your favorite thing to do in the fall?

"I like waterslides."  Faith thought I was talking about things falling.  I then asked her what she liked about this month and then asked her what was her favorite - pumpkins, apples, Halloween.  "Pumpkins."

5.  Share with me three things you like about yourself.

"Lips."  "Cheeks."  "Eyebrows."  My personal favorites are her eyes and personality.  Never met a friendlier except on the rare ocassion.

PAST WEEK OF FIRSTS


Since I've been doing a monthly Dean Does Lately, I haven't shared as much about Faith.  We've had 2 big milestones and firsts in her life this fall - 1) starting preschool 2) starting a sport.  This year Faith is attending a Montessori school in our area.  We had gone back and forth as to whether or not to keep her in her familiar environment and wait until next year, the year before kindergarten or start now.  Faith is a September baby so she has a whole extra year we had to figure out.  We ultimately made the decision to put her in a preschool program now because she was no longer going to benefit from being with older children.  Everyone else older than her was moving on so we decided it was best for her to move on as well.  I know that she is really going to miss her Mimi time and Mandy's house, but I think she's really going to like school as well.  This week is the phasing in week.  Below is Faith on her first day of school (wearing her Target outfit that I picked for Back to School photos in this post)

This past weekend, Faith also started soccer.  I would say it was partly a success and hopefully this next weekend goes even better.  She did the practice/skills stuff, but chose to mutiny on the sidelines for the scrimmage.  Once it ended, she started to cry, saying she wanted to play (it takes her awhile to warm up to stuff).  We assured her she'd have an opportunity this upcoming weekend.  How cute is she in her tiny little cleats?

Today, I wanted to feature some of my favorite items  made by Target's own brands including up & up, Simply Balanced, Pillowfort, Cat & Jack, and Circo.

1.  up & up fresh scent diaper wipes 


You can buy a 5 pack of wipes for $9.99 and a lot of times +Target will run specials if you buy 2 or 3, you get $5 gift card.  I really love these wipes and a pack of 5 typically last me a few weeks.  The current deal is buy 2 or more big pack of Pampers, Huggies, or up & up diapers and get a free $10 gift card.

2.  Simply Balanced unrefined coconut oil


Simply Balanced is Target's wellness grocery brand and I've tried and liked their chips & minute rice.  I use unrefined coconut oil in place of lotion and as face wash.  They don't have a price for this online since it can vary store to store, but I believe I pay around $5.99 for 14 oz and it lasts for several months.  +Target is running one of these deals right now - if you spend $20 in beauty items, you get a $5 gift card.




3.  Pillowfort main mare sheet set


I haven't purchased any of this brand's sheets, but love the prints and the quality is pretty decent at 170 thread count.  The pricing is on par with sheet sets I've found at +HomeGoods in Kid's section.  Pillowfort is Target's new gender neutral kids' home collection and the whimsy of the designs is right on point for decorating your child's bedroom.

4.  Pillowfort pom pom monogram pillow cover


I absolutely love these pillow covers; I've seen them at the store and they are really nice.  At $15.29 (since they're on sale from regular price $16.99) I think this a great price.  They've never had an F in the store or else I would have already pulled the trigger and bought one for Faith.

5.  Cat & Jack striped crew tee


Target is phasing out Circo and Cherokee to replace those brands with their new kids' clothing line, Cat & Jack.  I liked Circo and Cherokee for their affordable tees and leggings.  From what I've seen, Cat & Jack is at a similar price point to those brands.  I've yet to purchase anything by the brand, but I'm sure I'll end up buying something soon.

6.  Cat & Jack cargo pant


Right now you can save 20% on kids' clothing with code KIDS until 09/17.  These cargo pants were already a great deal at $8, but for the next week you can buy them for $6.40.

7.  Cat & Jack 2 piece squirrel set


Nut print pants with a squirrel tee - do I need to say more?

8.  Circo assorted hipster briefs


These underwear are a great deal at $7.99 for a 9 pack and hold up well through washing.  I like the fit of the hipster briefs the best because they fit snuggly at Faith's waist without ballooning at the top like the traditional bikini bottoms.  This happens because 4T is a little long on her, but we can't get away with 2T-3T size because they're too small and tight.  You should check these out - I can ocassionally get away with throwing these in the mix if she hasn't seen any of her My Little Pony underwear.  And how cute are these socks?  I think I'm going to have to get a pack of these for her birthday (which is in 8 days!).

9.  Cat & Jack long sleeve sweatshirt


Due to Faith's love of rainbows, Rainbow Dash, and My Little Pony, I think this shirt would be a big hit with her.

10.  Cat & Jack favorite legging


I've been wanting to buy her a pair of leggings with a print on the knee.  I've seen so many cute ones out there on Instagram and Etsy, but they're a little more than I want to pay.  At $5 with 20% off, these have the cute factor and price point I like.  If you don't mind paying $20 for a pair of leggings, check out this Etsy shop - KickinLegs.

I've decided to start a new weekly series to cover my top style, home decor, and sales picks from the week to inspire some weekend shopping.  Below are 5 things are my radar from exploring Pinterest, browsing at +T.J.Maxx, and online sales.

1. FALL DIY PROJECT


I found this rustic wooden heart on Pinterest when I was looking up fabric flowers and definitely want to try putting something together now that I've gotten a good handle on making felt flowers.  If I can find a good deal on a wooden frame, I'd definitely like to try my hand at a fall themed DIY project for my front door.  Below are a few I found on sale at JoAnn that I could buy over the weekend with my 60% off coupon (which hopefully can be used on sale items).

2. UNEVEN HEM DENIM


I was at +T.J.Maxx and saw a really cute pair of black uneven hem denim by Joe's Jeans.  At +T.J.Maxx, you can buy them for $69.99.  They're not on their online site, BUT, they are on sale for $35 on 6pm.com!!  Below are those jeans as well as some other great deals on uneven hem denim.



Express is having a sale this weekend - 40% off so those jeans would be $48.  I haven't ordered anything from Asos in a while and I've never tried their jeans but at $20, $30, they're a steal and look super cute.  Anyone have experience with their denim collection?

3. SAM EDELMAN ANKLE BOOTS


When I discovered Joe's Jeans Blondie Ankle denim pair at +T.J.Maxx, I also saw some ankle boots by Sam Edelman for $59.99 - Paige ankle boots.  You can buy these same boots on 6pm.com for $41.99.  Sam Edelman is having a Labor Day Sale with an extra 20% off all sale items (code - SAMSALE20).  Below are some of my picks (1st two are from Sam Edelman, the other three are from various other sites).




4. ZARA TRENDING PICKS


Sites like Zara, H&M, and Asos tend to overwhelm me with their vast collections and I don't really browse too much online, except for kids' clothing lines. When I go into a Zara or a H&M store, I feel the same way and always end up picking the pieces that are the least flattering or don't fit right, and tend to disuade me from shopping there for myself. I saw an article by WhoWhatWear explaining Zara's new category online, called Trending Picks.  I browsed through and found my favorites from the set.  It seems that embrodiery, tweed, and houndstooth are what's in for fall and I LOVE IT!

5.  MY TARGET EMBELLISHED CLUTCH


Do you remember my obsession a while back with all things embellished & pom pom'd (as evidenced by my above selection of Sam Edelman gretchen sandal)?  Well, I was in +Target  a short while ago and found the clutch I posted about on clearance for $13.98!  And it's even better in person, extremely sturdy, and the perfect clutch size.  It comfortably fits my wallet, cell phone, car keys, and lip products.  I've now been putting that inside my larger handbag and it's made my life 100x easier to find the essentials (my cell phone, car keys, and debit card).  Below is another look at the clutch as well as 2 other really cute clutches.  To make the deals even sweeter, not only are all 3 under $20, +Target  is giving an extra 25% off clothings, shoes, and accessories for Labor Day Weekend - it's a win win.

TARGET

This is where I had initially bought Faith a few things for school and what I'm going to have her wear for potrait pictures at Target.  I have a coupon from Target for potrait studio picutres for $19.99 and since I really liked how our Christmas pictures came out, I figured the pricing is right to go back.  I'm also going to have Dean take some pictures with her and bought the shirt below to match to her dress.  Both are part of Target's Genuine Kids Fairytale collection, which I believe I've mentioned that I'm a bit obsessed.  I honestly think the theme is so cute and revolves mostly around Little Red Riding Hood.

Dean Does Lately...15 Months Old


You would think not much has changed in month, but let me tell you, this kid does NOT STOP!  He has now figured out how to haul himself onto our couch and destroy Faith's Shopkins play area.  He has a new phrase, a new word and he's starting to figure out how to jump up and down.

DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES


Physical


Dean is full on walking, no toddling around for this guy, and is quite the speed walker.  His favorite move is to put his arms straight behind him and gun it for a hallway so I'll give chase.  He kind of reminds me of a bird ready to take flight.  

Talking


I might have taught my son the phrase "Go Away".  Let me explained how this happened.  Dean likes to throw everything, including his food, on the floor and my dog Max hovers in the wings for meat and cheese foods to fall.  So I started shooing Max away because Dean would keep throwing the food once he realized Max ate it rather than eat it himself.  In addition to "Go away", his new word is "baby", which is what he calls his blanket.  My favorite blankets are the muslim cotton blankets.  Faith still has 3 of her baby blankets by Aden + Anais that I bought at Target (check out here).  They get softer with each washing and stains are easily removed.  I'm talking poop blowouts, vomit, and chocolate milk.  I have had great luck with finding muslim cotton blankets at +T.J.Maxx.  I've found a 4 pack of Aden + Anais for $19.99 and other brands such as Hudson Baby for $14.99.  Below is a round up of some that are on sale.  I love the little bandanas at +Bed Bath & Beyond



Numbers

This is the total number of words and phrases that Dean can say. My new favorite thing he does is wave and say "Hello". He's started doing this to other little kids and I love it.

Total number of teeth that Dean has.  With all these chompers, we're now comfortable with giving him big chunks of food rather than cutting everything up into tiny pieces.  He'll pick up a small slice of pizza now and bite into it rather than trying to shove the whole thing in his mouth.

We bought Dean a new pair of kicks at Target before we headed to Water Wizz.  They're velcro strap Superman sandals that light up on the bottom (buy here).  Now Faith wants a pair of light up shoes - are there cool light up sneakers we could get her?  Do light up shoes and cool even belong together or is that a bit of an oxymoron?  FYI - Target has a special Buy 1 Get 1 50% off on shoes as well as dance wear.  Just bought Faith a little Danskin outfit for $20 (leotard and skirt).

EXERCISE W/ KIDDOS


During the weekends, I cannot get myself out of bed to do a workout before Dean wakes up.  So I have one of two options:  1) Haul out the single jogging stroller - I have the BOB and it handles great - and take Dean out and run before Miss Faith and her daddy wake up (top 2 pics). 2) Bust out the double stroller and walk as a family.  What you are looking at in the bottom 2 images is me behind Mark and Faith pushing Dean in the double.  Faith decided she wanted to "exercise" in her ballet flats and it was HILARIOUS.  She looked like a power walker in a fashion outfit.  We need to get her sneakers ASAP.

NEW SHOWER GAME


When Dean has found toys left around by Faith that he's not supposed to play with, he brings them into our downstairs bathroom shower.  I took these pictures of him because I thought it too funny how he thought he was being circumspect, when I was standing right there putting on my make up for work.  His face in the second picture tells you - "What Mom, I'm not up to anything".  His face in the fourth pictures reads - "Oh man, you caught me".  I do like this morning activity because I know what he's doing and he's in the room with me.  If I can't keep him occupied, I'll put him in the high chair with breakfast and some nursery rhymes.  

To wrap it up, this little boy continues to keep me on my toes.  Thank goodness Faith is a chill independent little lady so I just have to worry about chasing this one around.  Please feel free to recommend some toddler girl sneakers that you love.  We'll be getting good use out of them this fall for soccer.

Did you think I was going to talk about ignoring people?  Ha!  I'm actually talking about my ongoing obsession with open shoulder and off the shoulder tops & dresses.  I've seen so much on other blogs and Instagram that I've pulled together my favorite looks below and shared some Target purchases inspired by these looks.  Quick pic of my purchases - more details after my roundup.

DENIM & OFF SHOULDER COMBO

First look by Andrea Nine, who has the fashion blog Living on Cloud Nine is a great lady who always has sweet words for my blog posts.  I love her style and featured her in my post 10 Gorgeous Blush Outfit to Rock This Spring.  What I like about Andrea's style is that she mixes high low (in terms of price) pieces.  She is also a big fan of Target.  She also helps co-host a style link up, which you find the details on in the post I've linked her picture if you're interested in submitting your looks to her party.

Second look I first found on Instagram account Hello Harper, which is a women's clothing boutique.  I love some of the accessories they have, but I was immediately drawn to this off the shoulder top with tied sleeves.  I've linked to their clothing boutique website - you can buy the top below for $39.

Knot A Problem Top


The last look I found while browsing top posts for off shoulder looks on Instagram, bringing me to the blog, Styled Snapshots.  I love the simplicity of her outfit and the dress looks comfortable, but the off shoulder portion gives it that little bit extra.  Kendall has a lot of great looks featured on her blog.  In the picture below, I've linked to her blog post, which has the dress details.

OPEN SHOULDER 

The past year or two, I've been drawn to open shoulder tops and blouses.  I like that they're drapey so I don't have to worry about clingyness around my middle (you know - I'm in my 30s and have 2 kids, a flat stomach has long passed me by), but I still feel dressed up and attractive with the bare shoulder action.  You know how guys are always talking about how sexy shoulders are...

Anyway, again, I was able to find the two looks below by searching Instagram.  When I turned to my first source for inspiration, Pinterest, most of the looks were related to Thredup and not specific blogs.  I'd rather link to blog posts that are recent that have purchasing information for my readers.

This first outfit pulls together an all white outfit with neutral tan accessories - LOVE IT!  This is sourced from blog, CUPPAJYO.

Easy Like Sunday Morning


The last look I pulled from Pretty Little It Girl.  Her top not only gives the cold shoulder, but has tassels!!!  I love tassels (I've been stalking some tasseled pillows at Target, found on my Instagram feed).  Last, those blue suede shoes - yes please!

So I've had all these images burned in my brain and I went to Target to pass time during my lunch break while my car got some love (an oil change).  I found so many great fashion finds!!  Seriously - Target has up it's fashion game.  I ended up buying one off shoulder dress, one cold shoulder top, and a lace cami tank, but I tried on two  other cute dresses that I debated on buying.  But, I wasn't 100% sold on the dresses - it wasn't instant love like it was with the other picks and I decided to limit my spending.

OFF SHOULDER DRESS

This dress combines all three elements of my picks up above - it's a dress, off the shoulder, and has the knotted sleeves.  I cannot find this dress on Target's website, but it's $27.99 and hopefully at your local Target if you love it as much as I do.  



Target Dress, Vince Faye heels

Next up are the two tops. The first is a gray lace camisole that I thought would look really cute with skinny jeans or denim cut offs when it gets warmer.  It's a little on the loose side with the bottom a slight peplum ruffled bottom with lace.  I couldn't find this online either, but I bought it for $17.99


Target Mossimo tank

This red top has the tassels on the shoulder ties and lace at the bottom.  It is online and available for $19.99.
